Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship (B1)

Purpose of B1 English test: For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 speaking and listening.

B1 English speaking and listening test is conducted so as to check the ability to express oneself in a limited way in familiar situations and to deal in a general way with no routine information.

For example-

      Able to ask to open an account at a bank provided that the procedure is straightforward.

      Able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.

      Able to deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken.

      Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.

      Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plan 

Format of GESE Grade 5 exam (CEFR B1)

       10-minute speaking and listening test

       Provisional results on the same day

       The certificate usually sent within 7 days

      Speaking and listening only

B1 English Test is taken in two parts.

Part1 of B1 speaking and listening test: You can choose your own topic and speak for like 3-4 minutes. You should prepare the

topic on a subject in which you are personally interested in, knowledgeable about, and able to

discuss with the examiner of the B1 English test for up to 5 minutes.

Part2 of B1 speaking and listening test: Examiners of B1 English test will choose any 2 topics out of these 6 and will ask questions based on the

topic.
